Strike a Balance: What Works on the Job and at Home
By Linda M. Erbele, Real Estate Business Magazine, October/November 2007
One of our guiding principles is that it is unacceptable to be a success in the marketplace and a failure at home.
—Steve Cesari, The 1% Club
Several years ago, Keller Williams agent Cathy LaMon heard about a life coach group called The 1% Club. She reasoned that as good as her results were they could always use some improvement, so she signed up for the quarterly meetings.
As she had expected, Coaches Tommy Newberry and Steve Cesari helped her set goals; for the next three months, the next five years and even 30 years out. But what she hadn't counted on was the program's expectation that she set goals in areas other than work. The 1% Club urged her to set goals for her business, her physical fitness, her spiritual life, her personal growth and her family.
Family goals? "For the longest time, I just had business goals," LaMon says. But after starting the program, she set goals for how many dates she would plan with her husband, as well as getaways and special surprises. And, as many people in the program have discovered, her business grew as her personal goals were being met. "When you're a better person, you can give more to your clients," she says. "Last year, I had my best year ever."

I was thrilled with the coursework and began implementing ideas immediately! I was so devoted that I became a CRB instructor in 1989. The resources, networking opportunities, and coursework applications have made the CRB Council my SOURCE.
